One thing about us? We love masturbation. We love it for us; we love it for you. We love it with toys, to playlists, in the shower—you get it. We love it so much, in fact, that we’ve partnered with audio erotica app Quinn to bring you the State of Self-Love Report, which just so happens to be the largest study of women’s masturbation habits to date. Why, yes, it *is* a big freaking deal!
Since launching in 2019, Quinn has provided a place where those of us who have a thing for voices can enjoy erotic content without getting bogged down by the male-gaze-y tropes and ethical concerns that still plague a lot of mainstream porn. The paid, subscription-based platform is home to hundreds of steamy recordings designed to turn you on and get you off—from sexy stories to guided masturbation sessions to POV scenarios that put you right at the center of your own fantasy. “We believe erotic content should be aspirational and should make your sex life better, not worse,” says Quinn founder and CEO Caroline Spiegel. “It should be something you feel excited about sharing with your friends.”
That’s where the State of Self-Love Report comes into play. In the interest of breaking the lingering stigma that still surrounds self-pleasure (ahem, especially for women), this report analyzes data from 18 million (!) Quinn user sessions and a survey with thousands of participants between the ages of 18 and 56 to bring you a comprehensive look at masturbation today. With Quinn’s 77 percent female user base, more than half of whom fall into the 18 to 26 age group, the results offer exciting new intel on how (and when and how often) we, as young women in particular, are getting busy with ourselves.
This is important because—in case our society’s incredibly male-centric approach to sex told you otherwise—your pleasure matters! Not only is a little self-love sesh literally good for you (just ask the 63 percent of survey respondents who count masturbation as a part of their self-care practice), but it’s also a way of exploring and experiencing yourself as an independent sexual agent whose body can and should be a source of your own pleasure rather than an object designed to cater to someone else’s needs.
Here’s hoping this peek into the most interesting insights about the solo sex lives of our friends and fellow masturbators will encourage us all to be more open about sex, including the kind we have with ourselves.
